General Product name schema*
- New World Grape + Fantasy Name + Appellation
- Old World Appellation + Fantasy Name
Product names are standardized to ensure consistency and result in similar products being grouped together because products appear alphabetically in ‘Browse’. Standardization has the added advantage of allowing users to look at a large number of products very quickly.
Product names do not include information pertaining to container size, critic scores, or information on the label describing production methods, e.g. ‘Méthode Traditionnelle’, unless the producer considers it part of the Fantasy Name. Fantasy names are sometimes referred to as the brand name, or some other product identifier apart from a producer name, appellation, or proper vineyard name.
Displayed product names aren't intended to appear as they would on a wine list. Instead, they have been developed to ensure naming consistency across all products and optimize SevenFifty functionality as a marketplace.
PDO (e.g. DOC, DOCG)- and PGI (e.g. IGP)-level appellations appear in product names because they don't otherwise show up on the Browse screen, making it otherwise difficult to differentiate between a 'Sonoma Coast' and 'Sonoma County' Chardonnay.
*Product naming guidelines may vary slightly by region (e.g. Germany) or wine style (Fortified).
