How does targeting work?
With this update, distributors can create custom content on the storefronts Home and About pages and target the content to buyers based on the zone of their establishment.
Global Site
-
At launch, all existing storefronts will be converted to a ‘Global Site.’ This storefront version is what is seen by users who are logged out, or who are not in a zone that is included in any markets. If a distributor doesn’t want to use targeting, they can just continue to update the ‘Global Site’ and nothing will change.
-
The Global Site cannot be deleted and the name can’t be changed.
Markets
-
Distributor vendor admins can create a version of the storefront that will only be seen by buyers in certain zones or groups of zones. They can do this by creating new markets and assigning zones to them.
-
Once they’ve created a market, they can then add sections to the Home and About pages that only buyers in the associated zones will see.
-
Once a zone has been added to a market, all logged-in buyers in that zone will see the storefront for this new market instead of the ‘Global Site.’
-
Buyers who are attached to multiple establishments can toggle to a different establishment in the top right dropdown, and they will then see the storefront market that includes the zone of the new establishment they are now toggled to.
With storefronts targeting, vendor admins can create markets and assign zones to them to determine which buyers see the content. We set up storefronts targeting to allow vendor admins to create markets to give them flexibility to have the content they add be broadly or narrowly targeted. Some users were concerned about the time it would take to update several markets and keep them updated. Some users wanted very granular targeting. This setup allows vendor admins to target broadly or narrowly depending on their preference.
How do I create a market?
-
Vendor admins at distributors can go to their marketplace storefront page and click Markets → ‘+New market’ to create a new market. You can also click on the market selector dropdown → ‘+New market’ to accomplish the same thing.
-
On the markets drawer on the left side, you can name the market and assign zone(s) to it. Note: you can only assign a zone to one market. Once you add a zone to a market, it will no longer show as available to add to another market. If you want to transfer a zone from one market to another, you will have to remove it from the first market, click save, then go to the other market and add it.
-
Once you’ve named the market and added at least one zone, click save. This creates the new market and copies over all of the Home page sections from the global page. We did this so users don’t have to start from scratch and so they can reuse sections from the Global Site if they’d like without having to re-create them.
-
You can now add/update/remove sections on the Home and About pages.
How do I edit a market?
-
Click on Markets in the utility bar
-
Click the three dots icon next to the market → Edit
How do I delete a market?
-
Click on Markets in the utility bar
-
Click the three dots icon next to the market → Delete Item → Delete
Note: this will delete all content in the Home / About pages and is not recoverable in-app, but we can put in an engineering ticket to recover the market if needed.
About page
You can add sections to the About page and they will be targeted by market just like sections on the home page.
‘Company Information’ section
For buyers…
This section will continue to display information based on the branch/zone setup that we created during the distributor’s onboarding process.
For distributor users
This section will display information based on the zone the user is toggled to in the top right of the page (where it displays company name, zone, user name) - not the storefront market that the user is toggled to.
